Women scream and men run away: When it comes to arguing with your partner, there’s a lot of learning to be done

41% of Parship members admit that, when they argue with their partner, they can easily let their emotions run away with them. When there is strife in a relationship, strong emotional reactions are more frequent among women than men (45% vs 36%) according to the findings of a representative survey of c.1000 people between 18 and 65, conducted by PARSHIP (uk.parship.com), the leading online dating agency across Europe.

Offended or overcome with rage – the different types of reaction to an argument.
The survey also shows that, among people who react emotionally in the event of conflict, the nature of the emotional outburst differs widely: 40% rapidly take offence and stop speaking to their partner; around a third give vent to their anger and labour their point until their partner gives in, and around one in five withdraw from the argument, leaving the room or the house. Strikingly, men attempt significantly more frequently than women to withdraw from the argument and flee the situation, while women have a greater tendency to give vent to their anger.

“Insufficient skill in handling conflict is often the trigger for the failure of a relationship,” explains psychologist Markus Ernst, PARSHIP relationship expert. “For instance, gender-driven differences in communication style can easily lead to misunderstandings or even to the couple hurting each other. Women and men stand to learn something from each other in these situations as they work together to establish a constructive attitude to conflict in their relationship.”

Fitting Back Into Old Jeans Makes Women As Happy As Winning The Lottery

Research released today as part of the SPLENDA® 'Small Steps' campaign, has revealed that over a quarter of women would be as happy fitting into old jeans as they would winning millions on the lottery. The research also went on to show that more women (29%) would be happier slipping on those old jeans than spending a night of romance with their partner (19%).

More women than ever are making healthy resolutions (94%) in the hope of fitting into old jeans, however over half of women break healthy resolutions at least once a week. What's more, women are also deceiving their friends and family with over a third admitting to telling little white lies about their diet and fitness habits. The most popular fib told by nearly half (49%) of women being that they haven't eaten anything between meals when in fact they've munched on a chocolate bar.

As well as being in second place to fitting into jeans in the happiness stakes, husbands and partners are also the ones that women are most likely to lie to. More women would lie to their partner (35%) than their friends (29%) about their diet and fitness habits with the most common reason being that they are embarrassed (54%) followed by feelings of insecurity (20%).

We all know that keeping healthy resolutions is tough, but the research revealed that a fifth (22%) of women would find it easier to achieve goals by making them more manageable and breaking them down into small steps. And with 80% of women citing a lack of willpower as the reason for breaking healthy resolutions, it seems the women of the UK need help.

This spring, SPLENDA® is launching the 'Small Steps' campaign and with the help of an expert panel, will be giving women tips on how to keep going on those tricky resolutions. Style guru Nicky Hambleton-Jones, celebrity fitness expert Jane Wake, life coach Liz Wilde and SPLENDA® nutritionist Kiran Goraya will be working together to help women take a series of small steps that can add up to make a big difference.

Style guru Nicky Hambleton-Jones says; "Every woman has a pair of old jeans that they haven't been able to fit into for years, but that they keep in the hope of squeezing back into them one day. That feeling may seem as good as winning the lottery, but my advice is for women to take the plunge and bin those old jeans! If that slim day does ever come, women should celebrate properly by splashing out on a whole new outfit, not by wearing unfashionable old jeans."

Another small step that women can take this year is to make the switch from sugar to SPLENDA® - the sugar alternative with a great sugar like taste but a fraction of the calories, thanks to its original ingredient, sucralose. Available in both a Sweet Minis and Granulated format, SPLENDA® is great for use in hot drinks, but also for baking sweet desserts, but without all of the calories of sugar.

To learn more about SPLENDA® and its 'Small Steps' campaign or for the chance to win a personal style consultation with Nicky, a healthy eating plan with Kiran, or a personal fitness programme with Jane, please visit www.facebook.com/splendaUK or www.splenda.co.uk.

In connection with World Kidney Day the James Whale Fund for Kidney Cancer announces Patient Benefit Grant and Patient Lottery

In connection with World Kidney Day the James Whale Fund for Kidney Cancer announces the Patient Benefit Grant and Patient Lottery

Ahead of World Kidney Day on Thursday 8 March, the UK’s leading specialist kidney cancer charity, The James Whale Fund for Kidney Cancer (‘JWF’), is delighted to reveal its new scheme; The Patient Benefit Grant. In order to assist the grant and help those diagnosed with kidney cancer, the Charity is announcing the launch of a patient lottery, The Whalottery.

About the Patient Grant
The Patient Benefit Grant aims to help those suffering from or recovering from Kidney Cancer ease their financial strain and maintain access to things that can add to or maintain their quality of life. For example, if a patient requires continued access to television or broadband and their condition is making this challenging financially, they can apply to JWF for the Patient Grant. JWF will accept applications from those recovering from Kidney cancer for up to £1,000 per annum.

The Whalottery
To help assist in the funding of the Patient Benefit Grant the JWF has set up the Whalottery. Tickets are £1 each per week; participants pay for one ticket monthly, quarterly or yearly by cash, cheque or standing order. One winning number will be drawn on the last Friday of every month and the winner will receive a cash prize in proportion to the number of entries. 40% of the money collected weekly will be given back in the cash prize and the remaining 60% will go to the charity.

On World Kidney Day the Charity is launching the Whalottery with the first draw taking place on the last Friday in April. Those interested in participating in the first draw can register at www.kidneycancerlottery.org.

Broadcaster James Whale, founder and Chairman of the James Whale Fund and a kidney cancer survivor, said: “We hope many Kidney Cancer patients will directly benefit from this new initiative of the Fund and look forward to our lottery launch being well supported. The aim of the lottery is to have the chance to give something back to those that are generous enough to donate.“

FACTFILE:
The James Whale Fund for Kidney Cancer is the UK’s leading specialist kidney cancer charity and was set up in 2006 by broadcaster James Whale who lost a kidney to cancer. Today James is fortunate to lead a full and busy life. Every year almost 7,000 people in the UK learn that they have kidney cancer; that’s over 16 people a day. And yet the condition – the eighth most common cancer among men – rarely attracts much public attention. The mission at the James Whale Fund is to try and change that.
