Brain Injury Group runs free drop-in advice clinics for carers in Carer’s Week, June 18-24

The Brain Injury Group – which comprises expert brain injury solicitors, case workers and associated support professionals – is running a series of free drop-in advice clinics for carers of brain injured relatives and friends during Carer’s Week (June 18-24, 2012).

When a brain injury occurs in a family, the relatives and friends often have to step up to the challenge of caring for their injured loved one. This is a very demanding, life-changing role but help is available in terms of funding, guidance and support.

The Brain Injury Group’s drop-in clinics can advise carers of the opportunities that may be available to them.

“Brain injuries can have a devastating effect on the whole family, which is why it’s so important they receive the right legal advice and support services to help them manage the years ahead,” says Sally Dunscombe, co-founder and director of the Brain Injury Group. “The Brain Injury Group understands the vital role that carers play in the long term support and recovery of people with brain injuries,” she continues. “Our expert advisers can help carers cope and in many cases, where compensation can be claimed from a third party who caused the brain injury, our solicitors can help secure future financial stability for the brain injured person.”

One carer’s story
Sue Organ, the wife and carer of Charles Organ, is pleased to see the Brain Injury Group reach out to carers of brain injured friends and relatives. “I am very fortunate in that Charles’ solicitor - Neil Elliot of Thrings, a Brain Injury Group member – fought hard for compensation on our behalf,” says Sue who co-founded the Brain Injury is BIG support group during Carer’s Week last year.

“The compensation Thrings secured for us meant we could afford to employ professional care and source specialist equipment so that Charles could return home,” she continues. “It is vital that carers of brain injured people know where to find the help they need and I’m pleased to see the Brain Injury Group support Carer’s Week to raise awareness of the work carers do and the opportunities available to us on behalf of our brain injured relatives.”
